Treatment of complex laryngotracheal stenosis in childhood–experience of a tertiary University Hospital from 2016 to 2019

Abstract Background Laryngotracheal stenosis is a major cause of airway obstruction in pediatric age. The correction such abnormality still remains challenge, both because anatomical issues childhood and also due to the difficulty having properly trained professionals adequate hospital facilities. As treatment, many different surgical techniques are offered ranging from endoscopic less invasive procedures open surgeries, as laryngotracheal reconstruction cricotracheal resection. treatment for complex considered successful when we have decannulation or resolution respiratory failure with release intensive care unit. Eighteen patients who were monitored at otorhinolaryngology service between 2016 2019 diagnosed stenosis, collection demographic data, comorbidities, degree initial post-treatment aspect, whether not occurred. Results Of eighteen cases, three had congenital fourteen acquired one mixed stenosis. Ages ranged 4 months old 15 years old. Six (33.3%) underwent dilation only, six laryngotracheoplasty, five (27.7%) resections. One patient slide tracheoplasty. Seven (38.8%) undergo more than type procedure improve Out patients, them never tracheostomized. remaining fifteen (93.3%) decannulated. Conclusions success rate discharge ICU, after correcting our service, was 94.4%.
